A DNA reader using an X-Y stage

Igor Kordunsky leads hardware on the V2M-One sensor. Ask him what he is proudest of, and he points to Chromo-4: a DNA reader using an X-Y moving stage. He helped invent the real-time PCR instruments around it, including the fly-over scanner that multiplies a sample and reads it.

He has also taken data off a machine while it was spinning. On a GE steam turbine and generator at 3,000 rpm, a 600-channel telemetry system: the boards took 7,000 g of centrifugal force, and the signal left the rotor via a laser beam. He has built active vibration cancellation for tools that cannot shake. V2M gets that kind of hardware work.
